This month’s
featured website is kinks.it.rit.edu
which is a site dedicated to one of the all time great British
rock groups, The Kinks. Formed in 1963, the
original line-up included Ray Davies,
his brother Dave, Peter Quaife
and Mick Avory. The Kinks recorded some very
interesting songs and really distinguished themselves from the
other big three British groups of that time ( The Beatles,
The Rolling Stones, and The Who ).
Although casual music fans would know them best from their big
hit single “You Really Got Me”,
we’ve found many of their lesser known songs to be some
of their best. Songs like “Picture Book”
and “Village Green” are known to
Kinks fans and music enthusiasts alike, and are among our favorites.
Of course there are many other terrific songs and we hope this
article will interest you enough to check them out. The original
Kinks members no longer perform together and have each embarked
on solo projects. Because of this, there really isn’t
an official Kinks website that we could find. So we went with
the next best thing, the unofficial Kinks website created and
managed by Mr. Dave Emlen (kinks.it.rit.edu
is the sites URL). In our opinion, Mr. Emlen’s unofficial
web site for The Kinks is the definitive Kinks
website and it’s why we chose it as the one to review.
Now on to the review.....
Don’t
let this website’s simplistic appearances fool you, because
there’s more information here about The Kinks
than one might have thought possible. This website has everything
the good sites should have, but in such abundance that it’s
almost too much to digest (and that’s a good thing).
The News and Rumors page is a prime example.
Anything even remotely related to The Kinks is listed as well
as any pertinent rock n roll news. All the older news is archived
and available for those who wish to see it. next>>
