Paul McCartney is best known for
his days as a member of the Beatles. As a Beatle,
he wrote some of the most popular and influential songs of the
1960’s. “Yesterday,” “Hey Jude,”
and “Let It Be,” are among his more
popular hits. In fact, “Yesterday” (appearing on the
1965 album Help!) is the most covered song in
history. The team of McCartney/Lennon was indispensable
in making the Beatles’ fame. That wonderful duo of songwriters
went separate ways in 1970. Afterwards, Paul created the band
Wings. The band included his wife Linda
and Denny Laine. Wings had great success with
tracks such as “Live And Let Die,”
“Band On The Run,” and “Baby
I’m Amazed.” Wings disbanded in 1981. Following
Wings, Paul has continued to have success as a solo artist with
albums like Tug of War, Flaming Pie, and Driving
Rain.
In reflection, Paul’s work as a Beatle and a solo artist
has changed the music world. Before leaving the Beatles, Paul
laid down a raw sample of his song “Junk.”
Though barely two minutes in length, the richness of the melody
is penetrating. His genius is in his ability to conceive of songs
with strongly creative melodies. A brief perusal of his work will
unearth beautiful songs that one never tires of listening to.
The compositions “Honey Pie,” “I Will,”
“For No One,” and “When I’m
Sixty-Four,” are outstanding examples of his inexhaustible
talent. We always make sure his music is accessible at home and
in the car. In short, his work continues to make an impact in
the songwriting and music of the Davis Brothers.
